Eight in 10 delivery partners prefer local language for speaking while delivering orders: Survey

84% of gig workers prefer the local language for speaking while delivering orders and a staggering 82% prefer the local language for online interaction on the delivery app, finds a new survey, highlighting the importance of adoption of local language on delivery apps to create an easy and seamless flow of delivery.

India’s growing network of gig delivery workers is estimated to be around 7.7 million strong, and increase to 23.5 million by 2029-30.

Global same-day delivery company Borzo‘s survey “Understanding The Life of Gig Delivery Partners” focuses on providing insights into the life of gig workers viz., their motivations, education level, communication preferences, satisfaction levels, lifestyle, hobbies and interest. The report finds that 38% of gig workers have passed 12th standard, and 29% are graduates with degrees in B.Com, B.A. or B.Sc. Some workers are currently pursuing M.Sc, MCA or have left the course mid-way. Industrial Training Institute (ITI) has also seen participation in its courses from gig partners.

57% of gig delivery workers have a job other than performing only deliveries while 43% perform deliveries full-time.

36% of gig workers choose to stay in the delivery profession due to good earnings, 10.5% prefer the flexibility to log in and log out which acts as a motivator for them.

Furthermore, 56% gig delivery partners work in tandem for multiple service-oriented companies like Blue Dart, Delhivery, Blinkit, Dunzo, Swiggy Instamart, Big Basket, etc. Food and grocery products are the largest delivered items but 32% gig partners prefer delivering documents and categorise it as easy to handle.

According to the report, 56% of gig workers find the job of being a delivery partner absolutely satisfying despite delivering for multiple apps and consider it to be a good profession due to good earnings.”India’s gig economy in the delivery profession has drastically changed with the entry and scale of multiple players. There is a need for a deeper understanding of this profession that can help solve various pain points,” said Eugene Panfilov, general manager, Borzo – India.

As Borzo expands its operations in India, with language preference being a key consideration, the company is working to provide support to their gig delivery partners that makes communication easier for them.

In India, the firm serves 14 Indian cities – Mumbai, Delhi/NCR, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Pune, Surat, Jaipur, Goa, Indore, Bhopal and Chandigarh. It plans to expand to more cities this year.
