JERUSALEM, July 3 (Xinhua) — The 2022 European Women’s Under-19 Water Polo Championships kicked off in Israel on Sunday with the participation of 17 teams.
Organized by the European Swimming League, the tournament takes place in the coastal city of Netanya. The previous tournament was held in 2018 in Portugal, with Spain emerging victorious.
In Group B, France smashed Slovakia 23-5, with seven goals from Jehanne Mekki, and Italy defeated Croatia 18-8, with Aurora Longo also scoring seven for the winners.
The tournament also includes Spain, Turkey, Romania, Serbia and Israel in Group A, Hungary, Greece, Germany and Switzerland in Group C, and the Netherlands, Britain, Portugal and Ukraine in Group D.
The four group winners will advance directly to the quarterfinals, and the eight teams that finish second and third will advance to the second preliminary round, where four more teams will qualify for the quarterfinals to be held on July 9.
The semifinals will take place on July 10, and the final will be held the following day.
