Richard Madeley has joined Susanna Reid in hosting Good Morning Britain for the second day this week and fans of the show are not best pleased.
The presenter, 65, has enraged fans of the ITV show on several occasions over the past two days with several comments.
The first of Richard’s controversial comments came on Monday, when Richard and Susanna discussed the Earthshot Prize awards launched on Sunday by Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge.
Kate Middleton joined William to launch the inaugural awards ceremony, with both recycling outfits from previous years as part of the Prize’s environmentally-friendly aims.
Viewing a report of the ceremony on Monday, Richard commented: “She’s so slim isn’t she, Kate.”
Susanna replied: “She is, isn’t she?”, to which Richard continued: “Tiny, tiny waist.”
Richard’s comments sparked outrage from fans of the show for commenting on the Duchess of Cambridge’s body, with many believing that the comments were unnecessary and damaging.
One furious viewer took to Twitter and wrote: “Wait. What? Are we still body-shaming people? Are men still commenting on #women’s bodies? Have we not moved on at all? What gives Richard Madeley the right to comment on #KateMiddleton the #DuchessofCambridge’s body? Shameful. #ITV need to sort this out.”
A second follower was disappointed that Richard shifted the focus from talking about the important environmental cause, he chose to discuss Kate’s body.
Nina Seale wrote: “Good morning all, and in today’s lets-just-go-back-to-bed news, after coverage of Kate and William with the Earthshot Prize winners, all the male presenter had to say was a comment on how slim Kate’s waist is”
This morning (Tuesday, October 19), Richard continued to cause further controversy during the show, firstly when he was branded intrusive over questions he asked the daughter of someone who passed away in a care home due to Covid.
Richard asked Dr Cathy Gardner who was being interviewed what her final conversation was with her father before he passed away, triggering anger from viewers.
Viewer Michelle Collins wrote: “That was an appalling and unforgivable personal question asked by #RichardMadeley to the lady who had lost her father to Covid it’s none of his business and that is personal to her and her family this is why I cringe when he opens his mouth shame on you!!”
However, viewers became more incensed when GMB invited Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex’s father Thomas Markle onto the show to discuss the current state of his relationship with his daughter.
Thomas, who is estranged from Meghan, lamented the fact he had yet to meet his grandchildren.
Richard and Susanna were accused of asking Thomas Markle provocative questions, and viewers were angry that he had been interviewed in the first place.
Susanna asked Thomas: “Do you think they’re happy?” referring to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, to which Thomas replied: “Well, money isn’t everything, but the book [Harry] is writing shouldn’t be ‘Finding Freedom’, it should be ‘Finding Money’.”

Viewers slammed the interview, branding it a ‘waste of time’.
One, user Willireallyam wrote: “WHY? Why are you giving Thomas Markle airtime?! It was a pointless interview. We learned absolutely nothing. @susannareid100 & @richardm56 just pandered to him. Absolute waste of time guys… @GMB!”
Another viewer was unimpressed with Thomas Markle’s responses, and wrote: “Richard Madeley on GMB quote ‘Mega Markle’s ghosting campaign’ What happened to being impartial plus why are they giving Thomas Markle air time? He wants to see his grandchildren but continues to slate H and M.”
