Phillip Schofield’s wife Stephanie Lowe is said to have an emotional reason for not divorcing the former This Morning star. The presenter, 61, came out as gay three years ago on an episode of the ITV daytime programme, and has been supported by his wife every step of the way.

Despite separating, a source told OK! that Stephanie still loves her husband and doesn’t want to divorce him, as she doesn’t want to see him “fall any further”.

The source told the publication: “Whatever Phillip has done behind Steph’s back, she still loves him. Even if the love they shared in the beginning of their marriage is different to what it is now, the love is still very much there.

“Steph is, and always will be, Phillip’s support system. She hasn’t divorced him because she doesn’t want to see him fall any further.”

The former couple got married in March 1993 after meeting when he was 25 and working at Children’s BBC, where she was a production assistant.

The pair went on to have two daughters, Molly and Ruby, who were his biggest supporters when he came out on the show in 2020.

Express.co.uk has contacted a representative for Phillip for comment.

The host discussed his sexuality live on-air alongside former best friend and ITV co-presenter Holly Willoughby.

Phillip was replaced on Dancing on Ice by Stephen Mulhern, who is now hosting the competition alongside Holly.

The first episode saw six celebrities take to the ice for the first time as the mum-of-three, 43, returned to host the show.

It was touch and go for a while on whether Holly would be returning to the ITV show, as she had quit This Morning following Phillip’s resignation, after he admitted to an “unwise but not illegal” affair with a younger male colleague, but she went on to make a comeback, and in mighty form.

Ahead of Stephen’s debut on the show, Head of Entertainment Commissioning at ITV Katie Rawcliffe said: “Holly and Stephen are two of our best-loved presenters.

“So reuniting them twenty years after they first appeared on screen together to host Dancing on Ice marks the start of an exciting year for the show.

“Celebrating 20 years since they first worked together on Ministry of Mayhem, Willoughby and Mulhern will preside over the action on the high-octane skating show as this year’s celebrities compete to become champion of the ice.”
