Boy, ‘aged four’, shoots his one-year-old brother after finding unsecured loaded gun at home left by a relative
A toddler found an unsecured gun in a Texas home and used it to shoot his 1-year-old sibling, police said.
On Tuesday, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 17100 block of Sunshine Street for the reported shooting.
A preschooler, believed to be around 4 years old, found the gun in the home and used it to shoot his relative, officials said.
The 1-year-old was taken to the hospital, and is expected to survive, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez posted on social media.

The child’s father told ABC 13 that the 4-year-old likes to play with toy guns and did not realize that he found a real one that could hurt his brother.
The father, who did not appear on camera, was angry that an adult left a loaded gun around the children. It’s unclear what adults were home at the time of the shooting.
Police said that the gun belonged to a relative who stayed at the home but was not present for the shooting.
A 7-year-old girl was also home at the time of the shooting and not hurt.
Harris County Sheriff’s Office Maj. Saul Suarez said it is important for the public to be responsible and secure their weapons.
“Make sure that you’re securing them, especially when there are children in the house,” he told the outlet.
Sheriff’s deputies continue to investigate the incident.
