Steph McGovern gushed over her pal Carol Kirkwood and admitted she was not disappointed about not being at her wedding.

The 41-year-old TV presenter revealed that she didn’t attend Carol’s December wedding to Steve Randall since the couple chose to elope rather than have a big ceremony.

Speaking in a new interview the mum of one discussed the BBC Breakfast presenter’s special day.

“It was very private,” Steph told HELLO! “Carol and I are very very close friends, in fact, I was there the day she met Steve!”

“They did the best thing ever and just took themselves off, didn’t tell any of us, got married and then told us all afterwards. We were all so buzzing because I love her to bits and I’m so pleased she’s so happy and the pair of them are gorgeous.”

The former Channel 4 presenter added that Carol, 61, married her second husband without informing any of her colleagues.

The weather star exchanged vows with Steve in a heartwarming Christmas wedding and took to social media to announce the happy news.

In view of her 253,000 X, formerly known as Twitter, followers, Carol wrote: “Thank you so much for all your lovely messages. We had the most perfect day. It was a tiny wedding but so romantic and intimate.

“A day we will never forget. We are bursting with happiness. It wasn’t a ‘secret’ wedding, just a private one.”

Carol’s other half, a former policeman, who is 13 years her junior, popped the question during a romantic picnic in 2022.

The meteorologist was previously married to husband Jimmy Kirkwood an ex-cricketer, who also represented his country playing hockey.

The pair married in 1990, when Carol was 28 and was starting out at the BBC.

She announced their split in 2008 and said: “I was married for a long time, and I got married quite young, so it’s nice doing things I have the freedom to do now.

“If I want to go out to the theatre or go out with friends for dinner, I’ve got that freedom.”

BBC Breakfast airs daily on BBC One at 6am
