The craziest kids in the Marvel Cinematic Universe are touching down on our terrestrial small screens next month. And they are on a mission to bring their leader a little seasonal joy. The brand new trailer was released this afternoon and also confirmed that the one-off TV special will be released worldwide on November 25.
Unsurprisingly, when Sean Gunn’s Kraglin points out to the team that it is almost Crimbo on Earth, the relentlessly po-faced Nebula (Karen Gillan) growls: “We don’t have time for trivialities like Christmas.”
Apart from how outrageously untrue that may be for anyone, anywhere, sweet empath Mantis (Pom Klementieff) points out that it might be just what Star Lord needs.
They are all worried Peter Quill is still depressed over losing his beloved Gamora, so they decide to take a trip to his original home planet to cheer him up by searching for his often-mentioned hero.
Fans of the films know, of course, that there is a running joke about Earth’s greatest hero “Kevin Bacon.” Young Peter was snatched from our planet when he was a small boy and his memories have become tangled up with pop culture.
Once they arrive here, Mantis and the extremely literal Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista) set off to find the Hollywood star and smash down his door.
The trailer ends with the terrified Footloose legend fleeing on foot down the street.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special follows directly on from the events in Guardians of the Galaxy, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Avengers: Endgame and Thor: Love and Thunder.
As well as scenes set in Los Angeles, the one-off will also feature returns to Nowhere and the Collector’s Museum.
There is no official runtime yet, but director James Gunn said earlier that it will be less than 40 minutes.
