The worrying symptom that indicates ‘extremely severe vitamin B12 deficiency’

One of the most extreme signs of vitamin B12 deficiency is ‘paresthesia’, a burning sensation that usually occurs in the hands, arms, legs, or feet, but can also occur in other parts of the body.

According to a case report titled “Extremely severe vitamin B12 deficiency – case presentation and review of literature”, an 83-year-old man reported “paresthesia” in his fingers, among other symptoms including fatigue, vertigo, intolerance of physical activity, upper abdominal pain and loss of appetite.

The report stated that the symptoms had started 2-3 months before the admission. On being examined, while all other vital parameters were in normal range, the medical experts detected low levels of B12 in the body of the patient.

The treatment included injections of B12 and within a period of two years, the patient had no symptoms.

“We presented patient with extreme deficiency of vitamin B12,” the case study authors concluded,” the authors shared.
