Three entrance exam test-takers stabbed near University of Tokyo

Three people taking part in Japan’s nationwide unified university entrance exams were stabbed on Saturday near the University of Tokyo, NHK reported, while a suspect was arrested on the spot.

Two high school students, a boy and a girl, who had come to the venue to take the exam, as well as a man in his 70s at the venue, were injured in the stabbing and were being treated at a hospital for their injuries in the attack that occurred around 8:30 a.m., investigative sources told NHK. All three were conscious.

The student who attacked them, believed to be 17 years old, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, NHK said. The stabbings occurred before the examinations started, it added. There was believed to have been some kind of trouble between the attacker and the victims.
