U.S. dollar weakens broadly


NEW YORK, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) — The U.S. dollar decreased against major rivals in late trading on Friday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, fell 0.64 percent to 109.0030.

In late New York trading, the euro increased to 1.0045 U.S. dollars from 0.9994 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound was up to 1.1589 U.S. dollars from 1.1500 dollars in the previous session. The Australian dollar rose to 0.6842 U.S. dollars from 0.6748 U.S. dollars.

The U.S. dollar bought 142.68 Japanese yen, lower than 144.01 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar decreased to 0.9607 Swiss francs from 0.9716 Swiss francs, and it fell to 1.3032 Canadian dollars from 1.3095 Canadian dollars.

The above market reactions came as traders evaluated how large the upcoming rate hike would be when the Federal Reserve meets later this month.
