High class sprinter Masked Crusader is set to kick off his campaign with a win at Caulfield while promising colt Royalzel can claim a third straight win at Kembla.

Our experts give you an early shot at finding a winner this weekend.

Last week … Three winners. More Prophets ($4.40) – Ray Thomas; Cornet Pocket ($3) – Gilbert Gardiner, Chris Vernuccio, Glenn McFarlane, Simon Moy and Nick Quinn; Champagne Aunty ($1.35) – Trenton Akers.

Check out their best and value bets:

Saturday: KEMBLA GRANGE (10 races, start 11.30am), CAULFIELD (9 races, 12.20pm), DOOMBEN (9 races, 11.38am), MORPHETTVILLE PARKS (9 races, 12.31pm), BELMONT (9 races, 1.18pm).

BRAD WATERS (Racenet) Form: 65514

PROBABEEL (Race 6, No.1 — $2.40)

Probabeel starts her campaign in the perfect race. She’s in beautifully at the weights and easily won a similar contest first-up last time in.

Value bet: DESTINATION (Race 2, No.3 — $8.50)

GILBERT GARDINER (Herald Sun) Form: 3×581

BEHEMOTH (Race 8, No.2 — $4.20)

Great price for a dual Group 1 winner at Caulfield over the 1400m and the booking of Jamie Kah merely is cherry on top.

Value bet: MR MOZART (Race 4, No.5 — $6.50)

CHRIS VERNUCCIO (Racing News Editor) Form: 85511

TURAATH (Race 3, No.7 — $2.20)

The former English mare showed what she is capable on a good track with a blistering four-length win at Flemington. If the track is dry again she will be hard to beat.

Value bet: THE GAUCH (Race 2, No.5 — $5)

GLENN McFARLANE (Herald Sun) Form: 31141

MASKED CRUSADER (Race 5, No.1 — $1.80)

If you can get anything resembling even money, take it. Raised the bar last campaign and looks set to do the same this time around.

Value bet: TOFANE (Race 8, No.10 — $4.60)

SIMON MOY (NewsRacing) Form: 41141

TURAATH (Race 3, No.7 — $2.20)

Rises in grade again after thoroughly dominate performance at Flemington. All wins at this distance range and will appreciate give in the ground.

Value bet: TOFANE (Race 8, No.10 — $4.60)

CLINTON PAYNE (Racenet) Form: 83364

AEGON (Race 8, No.7 — $9.50)

His form lines up well against a horse like Mo’unga and we saw what he did in a stronger race than this last week in Sydney. If this bloke produces anything like he did in the Hobartville in the autumn, he’s massive odds.

Value bet: DARK REBEL (Kembla Race 5, No.8 — $17)

NICK QUINN (TAB) Form: 32241

MASKED CRUSADER (Race 5, No.1 — $1.80)

Took the leap last spring to win his first Group 1 race and looks a horse that will continue to race his way though the grades this spring. Looks well placed to resume with a win.

Value bet: DASHING WILLOUGHBY (Kembla Race 7, No.2 — $4.80)

RAY THOMAS (Daily Telegraph) Form: x3341

STEEL DIAMOND (Race 3, No.5 — $4.80)

Steel Diamond was checked and shuffled back through the field early, leaving her three wide, albeit with cover, for the entire race at Kembla Grange last start when she did very well to finish a close second. She was forced even wider on the turn and, on a day when you needed to be close to the inside rail, the mare still loomed up to win hitting the front halfway down the straight only for Bring The Ransom to dive through underneath her. Steel Diamond’s effort last start was very good last start and she is set to score a deserved win at the same track on Saturday. Hugh Bowman rides, she’s drawn to get the run of the race and the wet track conditions suit. This is her chance.

Value bet: QUICK THINKER (Race 7, No.3 — $18)

MATT JONES (Daily Telegraph) Form: 18613

SUBTERRANEAN (Race 5, No.1 — $5.50)

He got held up late and wasn’t able to power to the line last start and this time can turn the tables on Coastwatch.

Value bet: PALE KING (Race 4, No.1 — $16)

SHAYNE O’CASS (Daily Telegraph) Form: 2x21x

ROYALZEL (Race 2, No.6 — $2.20)

He is a pretty promising sort of colt. He is by Snitzel out of a Show A Heart mare which wholly accounts for why he is unbeaten in those two heavy track runs. Last start stakes-winner, on a hat -trick, and has trialled up well in the interim.

Value bet: LAYLA OF MONACO (Race 3, No.13 — $101)

MITCH COHEN (Racenet) Form: 62x1x

ROYALZEL (Race 2, No.6 — $2.20)

This emerging colt looks incredibly well placed in a Midway. Gary Portelli is hoping the three-year-old will be lining up in Group 1s later this spring and he lands in a Benchmark 72 here at Kembla Grange. He ticks the wet track box, is well drawn and has J-Mac on his back. Take the black odds while you can.

Value bet: SPIRIT RIDGE (Race 7, No.1 — $8.50)

JETT HATTON (Racenet) Form: 4×349

KING OF SPARTA (Race 8, No.8 — $2.80)

Up against the older horses in this but showed he was a horse with star potential after putting his rivals to the sword at this track and distance two weeks back. On that day he recorded the quickest last 800, 600 and 400m split of the meeting which suggests that he’s more than up to this grade. Drawn well in barrier four, loses nothing with Tommy Berry riding and we expect him to chalk another win up.

Value bet: PARLOPHONE (Caulfield, Race 6, No.9 — $14)

TRENTON AKERS (Courier Mail) Form: x1231

PRINCE OF BOOM (Race 7, No.1 — $2.70)

Has untapped upside and looks to be flying in his recent work. Comes up against Alpine Edge here but looks to have a huge advantage at the barriers with his main rival expected to get back after drawing off the track. Expect Luke Dittman to race Prince Of Boom handily and announce himself as Queensland’s best three-year-old.

Value bet: FANAAR (Race 9, No.12 — $21)

NATHAN EXELBY (Sky Racing) Form: x1115

MIAMI FLEISS (Race 3, No.13 — $1.95)

Expected her to come up shorter here. Tony Gollan has given her plenty of time to get over what would have been a very tough first up run and she now draws to get an easier time of it than what unfolded first up. Has conditions made to order to progress back to the ratings she produced 1st and 2nd up and if she’s anywhere near those numbers, she will be a mile too good for these.

Value bet: MATOWI (Race 5, No.1 — $14)
