A Wrexham fan who met Ryan Reynolds as his dying wish has passed away aged 45.
Jay Fear, from Southampton, was diagnosed with terminal appendix cancer in January after receiving the all-clear last year.
Actor Reynolds, the co-owner of the Welsh football club, posted on Twitter that he was “so grateful” to have spent time with the Wrexham fan.
“He didn’t have much of it left and the fact he shared that time so freely with others is something I’ll never take for granted and never forget. This man lived,” Reynolds posted.
“Sending all my love to Deb, Jess and Sam,” Reynolds added, referring to Mr Fear’s wife and children.
In an Instagram story, Reynolds also said Mr Fear was “one of the bravest, kindest and most generous people” he had ever met.
“Deb, Sam and Jess, thank you for sharing your dad with me. I know how inadequate words must be given your enormous loss,” he said on social media.
“Sending you all our love from my family, Wrexham and beyond. I loved every second I spent with Jay.”
Reynolds had invited Mr Fear and his family to see Wrexham win promotion to the National League last month.
Mr Fear told BBC Radio 5 Live at the time: “I’ve always loved Ryan Reynolds – ever since [2002 film] Van Wilder. I remember watching that for the first time and thinking that guy was cool.
“They always say you should never meet your idol and this guy is definitely an exception to that.
“I started watching the Wrexham programme on Disney+ and when you watch that you can’t help but love Wrexham,” he said.
Speaking of meeting Reynolds, Mr Fear said: “People might think this whole thing was for me.
“Actually, this is for my family because they are the ones that are going to remember what happened for the rest of their lives. I just hope this is a core memory that they’ll never forget.”
The Deadpool star also invited Mr Fear to the set of the third film in the popular superhero franchise, which is due to be released in November 2024.
Mr Fear’s meeting was arranged by Bucket List Wishes who thanked Reynolds and Wrexham for granting his final wish.
